Authoritative full-text databases offering uniquely comprehensive coverage of poetry, drama and prose in English

The first of the Chadwyck-Healey Literature Collections, English Poetry, was launched in 1992. Since then the Chadwyck-Healey Literature Collections have come to be regarded throughout the world as indispensable tools for teaching and research. In part this is because of the unique content they offer - in total the literature collections comprise the full text for more than a third of a million literary works, many of them completely inaccessible in print form - but also because of scholarly editorial values that are the product of a high level of editorial input from the academic community and from specialist researchers. Examples of this include:

  • Textual Accuracy
The primary works in the Chadwyck-Healey Literature Collections have an accuracy rate of 99.97 to 99.995 per cent, ensuring that the texts are suitable for serious scholarly work. Unlike other electronic texts that are available on the internet, these texts are accurate reproductions of authoritative printed texts; full publication and pagination details of the print original are given, enabling scholars to cite correctly from these texts as they would from the print originals. This level of accuracy is the product of a highly labour-intensive process. Read about our text conversion methods.
  • Academic partnerships
We work closely with institutions such as the University of Virginia and the Modern Humanities Research Association on projects such as the digitisation of Early American Fiction collections and the publication of the electronic version of ABELL.
